HM Sultan Brunei Surprises Students in School Visits

FOLLOWING the house key plaque presentation for the National Housing Scheme yesterday, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to visit two schools in Kg Pulaie and Kg Mabohai.

The first royal visit was to Pulaie Primary School where His Majesty spent time interacting with students and speaking to teachers on the school’s efforts to improve its learning and teaching quality.

With nearly 200 students studying in Pre-school up to Year Six, the primary school have set themselves apart by providing a warm and conducive studying environment.

The school has been recently equipped with seven interactive whiteboards called the ‘VerTable’.

This interactive whiteboard project images, charts, graphs and maps on the relevant subject taught in the classroom while teachers and students can write on the surface with an interactive stylus.

Currently, eight teachers from the school have completed a course specifically on how to conduct classes using the VerTable.Greeting His Majesty upon arrival at Pulaie Primary School was the Principal, Siti Hayon binti Haji Jumat, together with teaching staff.

Located in Jalan Kebangsaan Lama in Mukim Berakas ‘A’, the school was built in 1978 and only started operating on March 1, 1980. It boasts three main blocks, one administrative block and two classroom blocks.

Other facilities include a multipurpose hall, canteen, sports field and an ablutionary.

Meanwhile, much to the surprise of Raja Isteri Girls High School (STPRI) students, the monarch made an unscheduled visit just before school ended at noon.

The monarch was greeted upon arrival by the School Principal, Hjh Susilawati binti Dato Paduka Hj Muhammad, who later escorted His Majesty around for an impromptu tour of the school, renowned as one of the oldest secondary schools in the Sultanate.

Upon exiting the STPRI multi-purpose hall, the looks of excitement was evident on the faces of students, who queued up to meet their beloved king. While some took opportunities to have their photos taken with His Majesty, others meekly peeked out their classroom windows to watch their king interact with their counterparts.

Cheers of awe echoed throughout the school compound when His Majesty candidly walked through muddy grounds and opted for the unusual route through the spiral back-staircase to make his way to the classrooms, showcasing the well-known “Raja Berjiwa Rakyat” character of the monarch.

His Majesty then visited over a dozen classrooms across two blocks, interacting with students and teachers.

Mingling with students all the way through towards the administrative block, the monarch ended the visit at the school’s administrative block, where he consented to take a group photo with school teachers and administrative staff.

On my recent blog on Brunei's Time Line , one commentator got carried away and she started to talk about events in the past before moving on to nicknames. I enjoyed what she wrote and I offered for her to write a whole blog about it and I will put it up. But up to now, I have not received anything from her. Pulau Cermin - Brunei's Historic Island

Since I was already on the water visiting the Jong Batu at one end of the Brunei River, I thought I might as well go to the other end and visit the other historical site of Brunei, Pulau Cermin. Pulau Cermin as many Brunei historians know it is the site of the temporary palace of Sultan Abdul Hakkul Mubin, the 13th Sultan of Brunei and is the site of the only civil war in Brunei History. Sultan Abdul Hakkul Mubin took the throne after assasinating Sultan Muhammad Ali.
