HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, will be leading his team in the final of the Richard Mille Exhibition Polo Match today.
The monarch’s black team is through to the final after seeing off the white team 7-5 in the four-team charity tournament at the Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club in Jerudong yesterday.
His Majesty’s black team will be competing against the red team in the final. The red team includes His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, Hj Abdul Aziz Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Pahlawan Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Mohd Jaafar, YAM Pg Anak Hj Abd Ali Yil-Kabier PLJSN Pg Anak Hj Abd Aziz and Lucas Monteverde.
His Majesty’s team members are HRH Princess Azemah, YAM Pg Muda Bahar and Pablo Mac Do-nough. The polo tournament raises funds for the Yayasan Kanser Kanak-Kanak (YASKA) or Children’s Cancer Foundation.
His Majesty scored the opening goal for his team in the first chukka (period), while HRH Princess Azemah scored three goals.
Prior to His Majesty’s match, HRH Prince ‘Abdul Mateen’s red team defeated the grey team 6-5.
HRH Prince ‘Abdul Mateen scored three goals, including the final goal that broke the 5-5 deadlock against the grey team led by HRH Prince Hj Jefri Bolkiah.
HRH Prince Hj Jefri’s team included Thailand’s Ploy Bhing Sing, Amr Zedan and Alejandro Agote.
The polo tournament featured some of the world’s best polo stars. Each team was boosted by the inclusion of one of four of Argentina’s finest polo stars. Pablo Mac Donough joined the black team, with Ignacio Novillo Astrada on the white team, Lucas Monteverde on the red team and Alejandro Agote on the grey team, said the Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club in its press statement.
The statement added that, “Richard Mille and HRH Princess Azeemah are delightful to support YASKA and the wonderful work they are doing”.
The grey and white team that did not make it to the Gold Cup final will also be playing in the Silver Cup final at 3.30pm today.
Richard Mille is a brand of luxury Swiss watches from the company of the same name founded in 1999 by French businessman Richard Mille.
