BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sunday, November 9, 2014- HER Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah yesterday touched on the importance of helping others in need.
Delivering a sabda during the Covent Garden Soloists Orchestra by Toyota Classics at Jerudong International School, HRH said it is the duty of all members of the community to follow His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s noble example of helping others.
“It is often easier to look the other way rather than extend a helping hand. But helping others, whose lives are vastly different from our own, can help us see the world from a new perspective and to realise how fortunate we really are.”
HRH expressed her pleasure at seeing many members of the private sector came to make contributions towards the charitable cause.
“I sincerely urge others to follow in this warm spirit of philanthropy,” she said.
HRH also noted the effect Toyota Classics has in imbuing greater appreciation for classical music which is shown through the increasing number of children and youths taking up music as an additional activity or subject in school.
“They earnestly strive to master one or more musical instruments in order to be part of their school orchestra or a local band.”
She said that with the younger generations pursuing their musical aspirations to higher levels, Brunei may one day have its own class orchestra which showcases the abilities of Brunei’s musicians and instrumentalists.
“I applaud everyone for your generosity and commitment in making this event a continued success and in making a positive difference in the lives of the less fortunate in Brunei Darussalam.”
World class musicians performed during the event which featured Pamela Tan-Nicholson and Vasko Vassilev. Modern songs were performed and traditional ones such as Adai-Adai and Kampong Ayer.
Proceeds of the ticket sales were donated to several charitable organisations; Pusat Ehsan received $25,000, Annur Harapan also received $25,000 and while the Brunei Breast Cancer Support Group received $20,000.
