BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Wednesday, November 5, 2014 - SOME 50 students of Jerudong International School (JIS) had an informative lunchtime yesterday as they attended a short talk delivered by Permanent Secretary to Prime Minister’s Office.
The talk was held at the Lecture Hall of the school’s premises, where speaker Hj Mohd Rozan Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yunos talked about the international and historical perspectives of Brunei in the globalised world.
Bits and pieces of Brunei’s history was slowly told to the students as he interacted with them on asking questions such as the origins of the country’s name, the time when it was found and its early exports. He also added in some interesting historic tales of Brunei which the students hadn’t heard before, as well as giving some brief information on how trade was done in the olden days.
Hj Mohd Rozan, who has also published three books on Bruneian culture and heritage and contributed his books to the school, beckoned the students to read and approach him should they have further questions in their quest to find out more about the history of the Sultanate.
Also present during the lecture was JIS Acting Principal, Barnaby Sandow as well as teachers from the school.
The lunchtime lecture was set up as part of the school’s current curricular activity known as International Week, where they celebrate more than 50 nationalities of students studying in the school. The lecture hopes to give some insight on Brunei then and now to the students.
