Brunei Royal Wedding 2015: Royal Akad Nikah Ceremony

HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday attended the ‘Akad Nikah Pengantin Diraja’ (royal solemnisation of marriage vows) ceremony of His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik and Dayangku Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah binti Pengiran Haji Bolkiah at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital.??

Also present were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade; His

Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim; and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel.

Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar conducted the ‘Akad Nikah’ ritual.

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office is greeted by HRH Prince ‘Abdul Malik after the Royal Solemnisation ceremony

Seating on a special royal groom mat called ‘Kasur Namat’ that had ceremonial candles called ‘Dian Empat’ placed on each corner, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik was handsomely dressed in traditional royal wedding attire and affirmed his acceptance of the ‘Akad Nikah’ or marriage solemnisation.

The highlight of the ceremony was the recitation of ‘Lafaz Ta’alik’, where Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Salim read the solemnisation sermon and elaborated on the vows and the groom’s undertaking of royal union in lifelong love and companionship.

Then His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik said he understood and acknowledged the vows and then recited his vows.

His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik then signed the solemnisation form.

Outside the mosque, cannons were fired to mark the conclusion of the ‘Akad Nikah Pengantin Diraja’.

A Doa Selamat was read by the State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.

The royal wedding ceremonies will conclude with the ‘Istiadat Bersanding Pengantin Diraja’ this Sunday.
