Image
Rebecca Oi TEMBURONG Saturday, February 20, 2016 DURING His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s New Year titah, the monarch described the government’s ongoing Temburong Bridge construction project as one of the most important developments to date and viewed it as a large-scale modernisation of the sultanate. The bridge, which spans across the waters of Brunei and connects the Brunei-Muara district to Temburong district, will provide greater convenience and potential for tourism. Looking to play a key role in attracting tourist to the district is the first locally and privately owned Trandie Marina Resorts Sdn Bhd (TMR) located at Batang Duri, just few kilometres from Bangar town. Pelumpong Island - Another Brunei Tourism Destination

Image
Azli Azney BRUNEI-MUARA Sunday, February 7, 2016 I RECENTLY had the chance to spend one whole day of pure fun and excitement at Pulau Pelumpong with a bunch of nature and outdoor enthusiasts, the Nature Adventures group. It’s located at the easternmost tip of Brunei and is about eight kilometres from Serasa Beach or about five kilometres from Muara Beach, and it’s a popular spot for locals from around the area to go fishing, camping and picnicking. The only way to reach the island is by boat or, as I found out later in the day, by jet skis. I set out early in the morning to meet up with them at the Poni Divers office at Serasa Beach. The group had not only chartered a boat to go to the island, but also availed to a package deal, where they would have fun water sports activities and also a barbecue, all thanks to Poni Divers. We took off in three boats and I was in the slow boat, taking us about 20 minutes to get there. As we reached the spot on...

Tranquility at Tanjung Batu, Muara - Latest Brunei Tourism Destination

Image
Adib Noor Brunei-Muara Sunday, January 10, 2016 TUCKED somewhere in Jalan Muara just before the scenic Muara Beach is a view like no other. Build as unique manmade landmark to maintain clean, sustainable rivers and a stable coastline around the area, this area has now become a haven for residents from the surrounding area. This majestic location is named simply as Tanjong Batu which consists of a long stretched out manmade structure, and a specially designed seawall which provides protection to the coast line. Once there, visitors will find a billboard which further explains the background and objectives of Tanjong Batu. The contents of the billboard stated that the area is part of project headed by the Ministry of Development Brunei Darussalam which was initiated to help Tanjong Batu from further land and cliff erosions. This project in turn aids in protecting the ecology of Sungai Pemburongunan and the rare turtle nesting areas along the coastal...

Discovering Anduki Park

Image
Hafiizah Maideen BELAIT Sunday, January 3, 2016 TUCKED away in the corner between Seria town and Lumut, is a recreational park known to the locals as Anduki Recreational Park. Built sometime in 1992, the park is located on the roadside of the old road connecting Lumut-Seria and Kuala Belait. It was constructed to commemorate the silver jubilee of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. The project was developed by Brunei Shell Petroleum. Originally, the park is a series of abandoned natural sand pit – formed due to its location near the coast. These flooded sand pits were transformed into a 53-hectare landscaped leisure area, whereby the former deep sandpits have been converted into a broad lake in the middle of the recreational area. Back then, the lake serves as the focal point for a range of recreational activities including fishing, boating and windsurfing. Recently, it becam...

Brunei's Tasek Dam

Image
I read on the internet about the recent World Water Day and the ceremony that was held at Brunei's oldest dam - the Tasek Dam. The Tasek Dam located in the heart of the capital, completed in 1964 marked a major milestone in the history of water supply in Brunei. Until then, there was no major water supply but with the Tasek Dam, it was the first main source of water supply to Pekan Brunei. The Tasek Dam was officiated by Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Saadul Khairi Waddien III on 13th February 1965. For the World Water Day, I was told that the Tasek Dam would be open to the public until the 25th. So on Sunday, I took my wife and son to see the Tasek Dam. I have been to the Tasek Recreation Park many times in the past but I did not realise that there is this huge body of water on top of the Park. Honestly, all this while I was under the assumption that the lake where the waterfall is - is the Tasek. Tasek means Lake and any body of water, I thought this beautiful waterfal...
