Hari Raya Tribute to the Royal Family

The Hari Raya visit to Istana Nurul Iman is probably the only one in the world where the monarch and members of the Royal Family actually stood to wait for the public to come and greet them which numbers almost 40,000 daily for three days running. Someone emailed me whether I can scan the current photo of the Royal Family which was handed to us as a gift during the first Hari Raya. I looked at the frame and wasn't sure if I was to open the frame whether I could get it closed again as it is sealed. So I took a photograph of the photograph and posted it here (if you click on the photo, you will get a larger version). So, to His Majesty and the Royal Family, for taking the time to stand and greet more than 100,000 members of the public without complaint for three days every year, today's entry is a tribute to all of you.

Everytime I see a family portrait like this, I always imagine the boffins at Canon or Nikon research labs coming up with a camera which also takes a snapshot of what each person in the portrait is thinking at that split second which the shutter goes off... Wouldn't it be interesting if a device like that existed?

Yeah this picture. You know, I didn't think the photographer was doing his best job. Look at it. Biut everything (from carpet to angle to door) and Princess in Blue at the end wasn't even ready (kesian!). And why oh WHY is the Queen sitting on the side instead of in the middle? Prince Mateen's eyes have magically disappeared underneath his hat and such a pity! Even the usually very very photogenic Sultan looks normal. And Sarah looks very uncomfortable. And look at the background picture above Abdul Rahim's head. I want to pengsan now. Such amateur photography! All I want to say is: HE/SHE could've done better. Past year's photos usually look handal. Hmmmm...

Perhaps the boffins at Canon and Nikon could also come up with an extension device to record what the photographer was thinking as well! Heheheh...

Family Titles in Brunei

On my recent blog on Brunei's Time Line , one commentator got carried away and she started to talk about events in the past before moving on to nicknames. I enjoyed what she wrote and I offered for her to write a whole blog about it and I will put it up. But up to now, I have not received anything from her. Pulau Cermin - Brunei's Historic Island

Since I was already on the water visiting the Jong Batu at one end of the Brunei River, I thought I might as well go to the other end and visit the other historical site of Brunei, Pulau Cermin. Pulau Cermin as many Brunei historians know it is the site of the temporary palace of Sultan Abdul Hakkul Mubin, the 13th Sultan of Brunei and is the site of the only civil war in Brunei History.
