LOCAL soy producer Hana Soy & World Sdn Bhd will begin exporting its ground soy paste to Asian markets in August, said its vice-president yesterday.

“In six months’ time, we’re planning to export our mother soya, which is an intermediate product derived from the grinding process for our soy drink,” said Wan Krisnizaha Hj Osman.

The company’s factory is planning to export the soy paste to international distributors in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan, she said.

She was speaking to the media on the sidelines of a visit by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, to the factory yesterday.

Asked about the selling point of the soy paste, Wan Krisnizaha said it can be used for cooking.

“If you want to open a donut business, for example, you can use this product…let’s just say as a substitute for santan (coconut milk),” she said.

Wan Krisnizaha said there are two types of soy paste: mother soya 5 (containing four litres of water) and 7 (containing 7 litres of water). The former, which will be exported, is used for cooking, whilst the latter is used to process its soy drinks.

She said the soy paste is the exclusive intermediate product of the company’s factory in Brunei.

Wan Krisnizaha added that Mr Bean Singapore, the leading soya bean food and beverage retailer in Singapore, will be one of the factory’s clients.

She also said that Hana Soy & World will open another factory in the next two years.

“The new factory will be opened at the Bio Innovation Corridor in (Kg) Rimba,” she said.

The company currently produces up to 40,000 bottles of soy drinks per month which are sold to around 20 stores in Brunei, she added.
