HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam joined and led 18,000 of his subjects in a 4.3km walk around the capital yesterday to celebrate the 1431 Hijrah Maulidur Rasul procession marking the anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad’s (Peace Be Upon Him) day of birth.

Adapun zaman dulu atu Maulud Nabi satu achara yang laila meriah dan berdisiplin kerana ia satu hari yang besar. Mereka yang datang dari tiap2 kampong atau kumpolan salalu-nya ada ber-uniform sendirian, neschaya sa-belum achara Maulud itu di-adakan mesti di-adakan rehearsals.

Saperti yang di-lihat dalam gambar ka-dua dari atas dalam "post" ani nampak-lah bagaimana pengikut2 achara berdisiplin laila banyak berlatih. Alangkah sayang-nya Maulud Nabi inda lagi di-sambut macham dahulu atu.

Assalamu'alaikum BR, boleh-kah saya tanya bila gambar2 yang ka-tiga dan ka-lima di-ambil? I am guessing it was the mid-60's to the late 70's, when there was a 'second-wave' feminist movement with Betty Friedan since 1962. It is very interesting how the women linked Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)'s sayings to women's rights which was prevalent at that time, especially during Maulud!

On my recent blog on Brunei's Time Line , one commentator got carried away and she started to talk about events in the past before moving on to nicknames. I enjoyed what she wrote and I offered for her to write a whole blog about it and I will put it up. But up to now, I have not received anything from her. So, Hajah Yati, if you are reading, my offer still stands. Pulau Cermin - Brunei's Historic Island

Since I was already on the water visiting the Jong Batu at one end of the Brunei River, I thought I might as well go to the other end and visit the other historical site of Brunei, Pulau Cermin. Pulau Cermin as many Brunei historians know it is the site of the temporary palace of Sultan Abdul Hakkul Mubin, the 13th Sultan of Brunei and is the site of the only civil war in Brunei History. Sultan Abdul Hakkul Mubin took the throne after assasinating Sultan Muhammad Ali. It was quite a bloody time in Brunei history and I remembered one classic book written by Yura Halim entitled "Mahkota Berdarah" regarding the episode.
